Well, mornings at our house certainly are NOT the time to sleep. Owen has always been an early riser, but now that we have the twins, all 3 of our kids are up before Bri or I really want to be, especially on a Saturday morning! However, how precious it was this past Saturday to be encouraged by Owen helping Judah to finish his morning bottle. Of course, having a Thomas movie to distract him from the fact that his baby brother was laying on him (not really his "thing"). This certianly was a "precious moment" for our family. When I say "moment" I do mean just that:)
We had the privilege of having my Aunt Joyce here for 2 weeks. She spoiled me by cooking and keeping up with so many tasks that I can't seem to get done and by letting me go back to bed many mornings while she cared for all 3 kids! She thoroughly enjoyed her time with Owen and "baby bonding." What she loved most about her interactions with Owen was that he called her "Uncle Joyce." She asked us not to correct him because no one else calls her that . . . so she will remain Uncle Joyce (until Owen catches on :) and we miss her tons already now that she is back in her home in Newport News, VA. Even though God saw fit to take my mother from this earth before she could see and enjoy my children, I am SO thankful that her 6 sisters are still here to remind me of what she would have loved about seeing me as a mom and looking at and holding my little ones . . . Thank you Uncle Joyce!
Our little beauty gives us such joy each day. Brian and I talked just yesterday about how different it is having a girl versus the boys . . . we love it! It's clear Daddy and her brothers will have to keep their eyes out for her . . .
It was so fun on this particular night to watch her enjoy so thoroughly the aquarium bouncer that her brothers had already come to love. Layna is the type that likes to be held ALOT. The first time I realized how much she was liking this bouncy seat was when she was in it and started her little cry which inevitably means "pick me up ". . . however, what I realized was that instead of her asking to be picked up, she wanted someone to push the button again so that she could watch the bubbles rise and in turn spin the star and make the fish swim. How cute!
make it all worth it, don't they? After dinner, we have "devotions" with Owen. He sings some songs, reads a page in his book with us, recites verses and chatecism and then we pray for him to develop the character quality he read in the book that day and for one of his "friends" or "cousins." As you can imagine, it has become more difficult to be consistent with this practice now that the twins are here. However, what we have noticed is that when the twins are awake and happy during "devotions," it motivates Owen to pay attention and seemingly try to be a good example to his brother and sister. On this night, Daddy had Judah and Owen was SO excited that his little brother was a part of devotions. He kept talking to him and smiling at him and I was able to catch some of their interactions . . . although pictures never do such moments justice, they serve as reminders when times aren't so pleasant of the "family" times we have had together and will continue to enjoy, God willing, for years to come.
With all of this baby stuff around, Owen is trying to figure it all out. So far he gets the concept of babies needing drinks in ba-bas and pacies when they're fussy. . . this boppy, however, can only mean one thing to a little boy who sees most all of life in letters . . . "C!" It kept he entertained awhile for which I am thankful:)
At their 6 week appointment, the doctor said that these babies were very strong, but that Judah was stronger than his sister. Well . . . being a twin myself, I know what that spurred on in Little Layna! She's been trying to prove the doctor wrong ever since. It does amaze me who strong and alert these babies have been, particularly for the last month. On another note, do you think Brian is enjoying himself? Those of you who know him, don't even have to think twice before answering that question . . . then again, any loving dad wouldn't have to think twice before answering
While I was out with Owen, my sisters took care of the twins. Abby took the liberty (which I was so glad for!) of taking pictures of the twins while they were awake. This one is a favorite as Layna has that sweet smile on her face and Judah a smirk. These cute yellow outfits were a gift from "Mom Carr"--thanks!
